Rollicking Garifuna Settlement Celebration in La Ceiba
Wed, April 15, 2009

While you were frolicking in the cayes, chilling at home, or worshipping in church, resident of the Garifuna-Honduran community of La Ceiba were dancing in the street. Its part of that city’s month long celebration of Garifuna settlement – so while we do it in November, they do it in April, and from the looks of this footage, they do it in style.

Keith Swift Reporting,
With bright colours and a few provocatively dressed women it may have had the look of a street carnival. But instead of soca, they were chanting and beating beats as they marched though the main street of La Ceiba Honduras as part of the month long celebration of Garifuna Settlement Day. Front and center was Belize’s official delegation led by Toledo East Area Representative and Minister of Human Development and Social Transformation Peter Eden Martinez.

From a street parade – to a street celebration and they later took that celebration to the stage. And who was better to cap it off than Aurelio Martinez.
