Ebanks, Ecuador and the 2012 Election
Fri, May 16, 2014
Floyd Wendel Ebanks Jurado, the man who is one of Ecuador's Most Wanted, remains on remand at the Belize Central Prison. Beyond that neither police nor the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are saying anything about him. But tonight, more is becoming known about his life here in Belize.

Press reports up to 2012 list him as a most wanted fugitive for murder in the Guayas Province of Ecuador - and there are reports that he is still wanted in Ecuador. Still, there is no official confirmation coming from Belize Police. There has not been any official request from Ecuadoran law enforcement, and neither has any come from US Government. And internet search, however, shows that he was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and booked in Glades, Florida.

Years later, he emerged in Belize, and what we know of his life here is that he was very active in the 2012 general election for the PUP. He operated as the campaign manager for Oscar Sabido, who was the Candidate for the Cayo West Constituency. While he was acting as campaign manager in 2012, that's also when the last most wanted listing from Ecuador came out.

We also know that he has married at least 2 Belizean women, with the most recent one happening just a month ago. He ran the electronics store, Sky Wireless, in Orange Walk for 2 years. When he first became well-known in Belize, he was known to everyone as "Floyd". Quite suddenly, he shut down his "Floyd Ebanks" Facebook page, and he disappeared. Then, he re-emerged as "Christian Ebanks" in 2013, and that page remains active at this time.

Again, no official confirmation has been forthcoming, but any examination of his photograph will tell you that the man listed as the most wanted in Ecuador, who was also detained by US authorities, is also the person who was taken to court and remanded to the Belize Central Prison on Wednesday. The complication now is that he is a naturalized Belizean citizen. How this was accomplished? No one knows for sure, but, that's where it is tonight.
