IDB President In Belize
Mon, July 21, 2014
President of the IDB Luis Alberto Moreno is in Belize and he met today with Prime Minister, Dean Barrow. It is their second meeting in less than two months; they met in Miami at the end of May.

According to a release, Moreno confirmed the IDB's commitment to partner with the Government of Belize on a number of projects. This year IDB spending in Belize is focusing on the education and transport sectors for a total of $30 million US dollars. The first is the "Education Quality Improvement Program" - a 10 million US dollar project approved by the IDB in June.

The second project is for the rehabilitation of sections of the George Price Highway to bring it up to international standards, while ensuring better climate change resilience. That is expected to be approved in November.

After meeting with the Prime Minister, Moreno visited the Cayo Welcome Center in San Ignacio and Santa Elena, a project funded by the IDB as part of the 13 million US dollar Sustainable Tourism Program.
