Five Years For Firearm
Fri, September 19, 2014
Rafael Usher is at prison tonight serving out a 5 year sentence after he was convicted of firearm offences today.

The incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. on June 3, 2011. Two police officers testified that they responded to a report of shots being fired on Matura Street and while they were on Gill Street they saw Usher riding a pink beach cruiser bicycle coming towards their vehicle. They said that when they spotted Usher and searched him they found a sawed-off shotgun tucked his waist. It had one cartridge in the chamber, and when the officers continued to search him, they found another cartridge on one of his pockets. They subsequently charged him with keeping a prohibited firearm, and keeping prohibited ammunition.

Usher testified in his own defense, and denied that the weapon was found on him. After reviewing all the evidence, Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer, found him guilty. She sentenced him to a total of 8 years for both offences, but because the sentences are to run concurrently, he will only serve 5 years.
