Police Lament Leslie Logan Sr.’s Cutitng Remarks
Fri, October 31, 2014
But there's no such tidy ending for the family of Leslie Logan Jr. 10 days ago, we showed you what his family had to say about the investigation into his killing. His father, Leslie Sr. who is a retired police officer with over 30 years of experience in the Department, harshly criticized Orange Walk Police claiming that they mishandled the inquiry.

The Logans say that the Chinese Grocer, who Leslie Jr. robbed at gunpoint, crossed the lone of self when he ran down Logan Jr and shot him as he lay helpless on the road and begged for mercy.

Police investigators disagree with him saying that there is no evidence at this time which they can use to prosecute the Chinese groce and bring murder charges.

Today, we got a response from the Police Public Relations Officer, who told us that Leslie Logan Sr may have valid points, but he was unfair in his comments about the Department. Here's that interview:

Douglas Hyde - PR, Community Policing Relations
"In terms of the Logan situation I know that the case itself is being investigated and based on the media coverage that we saw, likewise we in the Police Department were really annoyed in terms of the allegation that was made against the Police Department itself, specifically the allegation about the Police Officer. Of course there must be an investigation if the Logan family goes in and makes an official report, then that case will be investigated, and that much I can say."

Mike Rudon, CH5
"We understand that the Chinese person in question has left the country. In that case then what would be the outcome of any investigation."

Douglas Hyde - PR, Community Policing Relations
"I can't say right now in terms of the situation with the Chinese which I heard likewise that the person had already left the country, but definitely the investigation basically still continues in terms of the process."

Daniel Ortiz
"I don't know if you are able to talk to us about it but can you tell us why is it that this gentleman eas allowed to leave at the initial stage when he was being investigated?"

Douglas Hyde - PR, Community Policing Relations
"I can't comment on that."

Mike Rudon, CH5
"Could it be that, it seems that the police is taking the allegations by the Logan family very seriously. Mr. Logan is a career police officer, he actually retired from the Orange Walk Police Department, has that aided the belief of the police in his credibility?"

Douglas Hyde - PR, Community Policing Relations
"No, in all case the Police Department itself, we strive on professionalism and I will say that over the years we've literally developed over the years in terms of our processes and our investigation and our intelligence work and stuff. We understand that he is annoyed and angry and hurt and we appreciate hearing his comments and also in terms of his concerns, we will address some of the concerns that he brought out and we respect of course as a career police officer we appreciate the years he has given within the department and of course criticism we have to appreciate whether it is positive or negative. We will be looking at the situation."

The Logan family claims that they've been informed that the shooter has left Belize.
