PUP Says Mark Flowers Must Be Arrested
Thu, July 21, 2016

GSU Commander Superintendent Mark Flowers is under scrutiny tonight, and there had been speculation that he might have been charged today – but, as it turns out the case is not that straightforward. First, the 14 year old girl who has accused him of having sexual relations with her twice in the early part of this year, is pregnant.  Sources tell us that Flowers is urging police and the human services department to subject him to a paternity test to prove that he is not the father of the child. Â  Second, sources tell us that there was a prior complaint made by the child saying that he stepfather had fondled her, but that was made in Belmopan, while this complaint was made in the city.  Now, both cases are being looked at together. Both incidents are alleged to have occurred at a village in the Cayo district. These factors explain why police are proceeding with caution.

Now, the PUP doesn’t want to hear it.  The party issued a release today saying, quote,  â€œNews reports today speak of the police seeking “substantial proofâ€￾ before moving against Mr. Flowers. This is completely unacceptable. Once a credible report and complaint of unlawful sexual intercourse has been made against anyone, the Police must bring charges. It is not for the Police to seek substantial proof. That is the responsibility of the Court.
If the Police has been presented with a credible report and Mr. Flowers has not been charged then he is receiving special treatment and protection, which we deplore in the strongest terms. If this serious allegation is true then Mr. Flowers must face all the consequences of his actions and be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Nothing less will do.â€￾ End quote.
