PM Says Hulse Will Bring Change To Police
Mon, August 1, 2016
And the investigation into Mason will now be overseen by new Police Minister Godwin Hulse. It's a major transition for Hulse, who is an engineer by training, and had taken on the role of super administrator at the Department of Lands. And now he's in charge of the police department - which the Prime Minister today conceded needs some urgent attention:

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"We all know that to put it mildly - all is not well with the Belize Police Departments. We've heard of at the very top personality conflicts, which I supposed are to be expected in any organization, but that seem to be happening with a degree of intensity that's unwelcomed. We've heard of turf grabbing or turf jealousy. We've heard of the appearance of fiefdoms. So, it will take some doing to get to a situation where the public can be assured that as far as it humanly possible, the police department is doing all that it possibly can and doing it effectively to be successful in discharging its primary mandate which is to assure our public of a degree of citizen security, citizen safety. I have every confidence that if anybody can do it, Godwin Hulse can."
