Mayor Agrees (Verbally) With Integrity Filings
Wed, September 28, 2016

While we had the opportunity, we asked the Mayor if he is willing to disclose his assets to the Integrity Commission, like the PUP did last week.

Now, the Commission is presently not functioning. But, in all this talk about good governance that the Teachers have pushed, we wondered if the Mayor is willing to do what they are legally required to as elected public officers. He told us that he has no problem with it:

Daniel Ortiz
"Is that something you would entertain?"

Darrell Bradley, Mayor - Belize City
"Well I have absolutely no problem with that. I think that as a leader we must lead by example and in relation to the disclosure of assets that's something I would encourage other elected officials to do and I would be fully prepared to do that. I would actually go on record to say I would commit to doing that by a certain time. I have looked at the requirements, it's actually kind of onerous but it's no problem in me doing that, I have nothing to hide and I think that we are moving towards better integrity and transparency in public life and I think we need to have more conversations about that. Not only about the idea of disclosure but it has to be comprehensive. One of the things that I have looked at and is very necessary is the idea of public sector reform. We need to ensure that that the public service is based on meritocracy. The idea of procurement of services, you need to ensure that the proper procurement rules and that those procurement rules are followed so that all of those things are a part of good governance."
