Hattieville Man Murdered Sitting On Steps
Mon, March 13, 2017
Turning now to the weekends other murder, a man was executed outside his front door in Hattieville. On Saturday night, 35 year old Michael Usher was sitting on a bucket at the front steps when a man opened fire - hitting him in the head and side. Usher collapsed and took his final breaths in the yard. Usher's aunt, Vinette Arnold told us that he had just walked her inside the house when she heard the gunshots. She said she would have never thought that she would find her nephew's body thrown in the dirt. Here is her account.

Vinette Arnold, Aunt
"I usually sit down out there with him but I came in, when I came in, I stood up by the table to speak to my common law and I moved right in and I went into the room that is 8:30 and when I listened I hear him, but the door wasn't locked, the screen door was pushed in and the door hauled in and when I heard "Buay what is going with you, Buay what is going on with you Buay?"

"You heard Michael say that to somebody else?"

Vinette Arnold, Aunt
"Yes I heard Michael say that to somebody else but I didn't get up so afterwards I heard, I hollered at him and I told him "Michael what is it "He didn't answer but in that I heard him say "Aaye!!" that is before 9:00 you know, he bawled and I said what is it and I was looking to burst out then I heard a shot, I was looking to burst out and go to the door to open it to see what It was but then my common law husband said no it's a gun and when I listen again I heard 'Pow, Pow". I said My Lord anyways after that he went, I see the police vehicle, a vehicle stopped out there and I said "What is it?" He said its police, police said they were patrolling and they heard the shot so they came so I said where is Michael, look for him for me because he isn't on the step again, look for him for me because around the house is dark and he went and he said see him down here on his face."

"So I am bawling and I told them please help me help me go and get something so I can take him down and I am bawling and the police told me I can't touch him."

Courtney Weatherburne, 7News
"I am sure this is a difficult time, you saw him on the ground, and you know to lose him like this."

Vinette Arnold, Aunt
"Leave him like that, that is the thing that burns me, that burns me bad I'm telling you, I told the police please let me get something to take him down, I don't mind if he had died half way on the road when we were taking him down, I don't mind but it pains me how they left him down there to die, I'm telling you."

Courtney Weatherburne, 7News
"And did he tell you about any issue or problem he had with anybody?"

Vinette Arnold, Aunt
"No, no, he is a boy who doesn't walk about, my neighbors can tell you, he goes on the back verandah, he sits down, he comes in, it's in the evening he sits out there with his phone to listen to music."

Nzingah Obi, Common Law Wife
"It's just hard, I feel empty. I feel for my daughter, she had a close connection with him, you know , he was like her best friend, they are always together, it just hurts, that is all I can say I feel it for my daughter, I mean they were close, real close everybody who knows them knew that."

Usher had just moved from Belmopan to his aunt's Hattieville home 2 months ago. Usher leaves behind a 5 year old daughter. Usher had appeared on 7News in March 2014 complaining about the police.
