Arileeā€™s Fire Not Electrical
Thu, March 16, 2017
The Fire Department has concluded that the fire at Arilee Scott's Prince Street home was not caused by faulty electrical connections. Yesterday Scott's son told us that the house had electrical problems ever since it was rebuilt after the last fire 10 years ago. But today the Fire Department's Operations Officer said that the cause of the fire is a lot simpler than that:...

Benesford Matura, Operations Officer - BNFS
"At approximately 7am yesterday morning we got a call for a structural fire on Prince Street. Upon arrival the 2 store dwelling was a bit a few yards in on Prince Street. The upper flat bedroom was totally engulfed and flames were mostly concentrated in the upper flat."

"We got into operations and quickly extinguish that fire, because if you can see the remains are not much. The entire downstairs is safe with a little water damage. We extinguish that fire and investigation is showing that it's not electrical. We ruled that out. The origin of the fire is on the top of one of the bedroom in the upper flat, but precisely what started it, what came together to start that fire we are still investigating - still trying to figure out what caused that fire."

"It started on the bed, on the mattress you could say?"

Benesford Matura, Operations Officer - BNFS
"Exactly it started on the bed mattress in the upper room."

"So you can't say if it's electrical problem?"

Benesford Matura, Operations Officer - BNFS
"We've check the wiring and everything and we've ruled that out. Maybe they had electrical problem, but this fire did not start from an electrical fault."

Courtney Weatherburne, 7News
"You can't say what exactly started it?"

Benesford Matura, Operations Officer - BNFS
"What exactly we cannot say, but we know exactly where it started from, from the fire patterns we've investigated."

As we reported last night, it's the second time in 10 years that Arilee Scott's home has been destroyed by fire.
