| Botched Case: Cholom Is Free After Nine Months |

He allegedly admitted to having sex with a 13 year old but 46 year old Santiago Cholom has been set free after nine months behind bars. His attorney, Oswald Twist successfully argued before the judges of the court of appeal that a number of serious technical errors had been made in the case. The DPP's office conceded to these errors and the judges of the court of appeal set Cholom free. Ususally, they would just order a retrial.
Notably, Cholom's confession was not accepted in court because it was written in English which Cholom who is a Maya, says he does not understand.
