Well Known Sandhill Fisherman Disappears, Body Turns Up Drowned

A well-known Sandhill fisherman drowned at sea over the weekend. 51 year old Barry Rosales also known as "Jaxey" left home on Friday morning with his regular fishing partner. They went to their favorite spot near Alligator Caye but Rosales became ill on the trip. Rosales stayed back to rest while his partner went out fishing but when he came back Rosales wasn't around. We spoke to Rosales' father this morning and he told us what he knows.

"Early Friday morning at about 7-8am, he went out to sea."

"So he told you all that he was going fishing?"

Arthur Rosales, Father
"They picked up from here and they say they will come back on Monday. When I got the call Sunday morning that he was missing and they can't find him on the caye. That was about it. I Spoke to the men when they came in and they explain to me that look like he walk out to the sea, because they found his body out there."

"You understand that we wasn't feeling so well right?"

"Yes because he told his mother that he had pain in his stomach."

"Did he suffer from any sickness at all?"

Arthur Rosales, Father
"No, you know when you drink, you stomach gives a little trouble. He drinks a lot, I can tell you that."

"So when did they actually find his body?"

Arthur Rosales, Father
"Yesterday evening they say they found him."

"You weren't expecting to hear that news, because he always goes fishing. This is something he normally does."

Arthur Rosales, Father
"Yes, sometimes he is out there a whole month, a whole week or so, especially when crayfish season opens."

The report is that Rosales, in his sickness or uneasiness picked up his bag and walked into the sea and drowned. His body was brought in today and buried immediately. Police say that no sign of violence was observed on the body and no foul play is suspected. A postmortem examination certified the cause of death as drowning.
