Ranchito Robbers Were Contract Criminals From Belize District Say Police
posted (November 9, 2017)
Turning now to the north, police say they have made progress in a home invasion case in Ranchito Village. As we reported, an elderly retired American couple Michael and Janet McGhee woke up on the morning of October 30th to find a pair of masked, armed men in their house.

They tied up and terrorized the couple, and then stole everything valuable in their house, including their pickup and her diamond wedding ring.

Police say that contract criminals from the Belize district are their main suspects:...

Supt. Alejandro Cowo- CIB, Belize City
"We are looking for three persons- two from Belize City and one from Hattieville. One of them was detained this morning and we are making arrangements for him to be transported to Corozal for him to be interviewed and questioned in regards to that aggravated burglary."

Jules Vasquez- Reporter
"So then, it appears that the operators of that crime originated in the Belize District?"

Supt. Alejandro Cowo
"Yes, in conjunction with somebody from Corozal who, likewise, is detained this morning."

Jules Vasquez
"Is this something you all are looking at? We always speak about the displacement of crime. Whenever these operations clamp down on a certain area, those criminal elements, seeking opportunities, may go into other jurisdictions?"

Supt. Alejandro Cowo
"Yes, that is the trend that we have been noticing in Corozal for the past incidents that have occurred. We have gotten information that it is somebody from Corozal there working with people from Belize City that are taken to Corozal to commit these incidents."

We'll keep following this case to see if arrests are made.
