posted (January 5, 2018)
The Prime Minister bristled at the suggestion that there could have been a friendly arrangement between Belize Roadway Construction, and the Area Representatives who is also the Minister of works:...

"The minister says no mining license was required, but one was in fact required as we've confirmed with officials from the ministry of natural resources."

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"You are talking about what the minister said in the house?"

Reporter
"That, and the fact that it's been alleged that he is very closely linked, although there hasn't been anything to prove much but in relation to BRC, there are a lot of procedures that were not followed at questionable matter."

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"Don't bring to me any argument that Montero is somehow involved in Tiger Aggregates."

Reporter
"But a mining license was required."

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"Not from him, as far as I know a blasting license is issued annually by the police. It's not a project specific license, you get an annual license. When you are working a quarry, you require a mining license from the Ministry of Natural Resources and when you get that mining license that would deal with the question of methodology of your quarry. At that point, it has nothing to do with the Ministry of Works. If the Tiger Aggregates people did not follow the right procedure and did not get a mining license from the Ministry of Natural Resources then that is something that clearly was wrong and needs to be looked at."
