A Reprieve From The Garbage
posted (November 6, 2008)
Belize City is still choking on its own garbage tonight, but there is some relief.

Belize Waste Control today picked up garbage on the Northside - garbage in most cases that’s been there since Monday morning. The company relented from its garbage collection boycott after collecting a payment voucher from the Belize City Council today.

Anthony Griffith, the Owner of Belize Waste Control told us that his company will pick up the Southside’s garbage tomorrow – by then that will have also been sitting for 72 hours.

It is a break for a city over-run by garbage, but the reprieve is only a very small one. Griffith told us the voucher he collected is payment for October 13th. to 17th. So, that means that as of tomorrow, the City Council will still be three weeks behind in payments.

And with the council still behind in its payments, there’s a good chance that waste control could go on a boycott again next week. We’ll keep monitoring the situation.
