posted (July 15, 2009)

Those returning players will join Clinton Lamb Fuller and Richard Troyer. Fuller is working in IT in Atlanta and Troyer is finishing college in Utah. Both didn’t think twice about returning.

Clinton Fuller, From Atlanta
“It has been a while since I’ve played for the national team and the last time we did play in 98 with the group of guys we had we were successful. So looking at what happened back in 2006, it has kind of motivated me to be back here and bring back the gold to Belize. The group of guys that Paul and Kevin Seroki the coach put together is a very strong unit. All we got to do now is figure a way how to put that together and find out how we can measure and I definitely see potential to bring home the gold.”

Richard Troyer, From Utah
“It is always fun, every time I walk off the plane I feel at home so I love it. I am really excited. The last time I played with the national team it was nearly as organized but this time the Federation, it seems like they are doing a really good job, like organizing it and it is really exciting.”

The twelve players will be chosen within two weeks and national team coach Kevin Seroki told us how the elimination will work.

Kevin Seroki, National Team Coach
“What’s going happen is we’re going to have a tryout for everybody. I know in the past everybody said, a lot of people said that they didn’t get a fair shake, saying that we just picked the team without giving them a shot. So the 24 guys will come into practice and we’re going to give everybody a fair shot and the cream rises to the top.

What we’re looking for, we’re looking for team players. Everybody that comes in don’t have to be scorers. I want guys who can play their role. I want guys who can rebound, guys who can score, guys who can pass the ball, guys who play defense, and so that is who I am looking for and guys who gel together as a team because that is what’s going to take the win.”

Charlie Burgess,
“I feel a little bit of pressure because everybody is expecting something and then I feel like if we don’t succeed on that behalf then I would feel as if we let everybody down. So like me and probably the other players, we are just going to come out here and play our hardest trying to get our chemistry together so everybody can be on the same page and we will get out there and play as a unit and hopefully something positive will turn out from there.”

A practice match is scheduled with a team from Honduras. The tournament will be held in Cancun and runs from August 5th to the 9th.
