posted (November 11, 2009)

The community has been rocked by news of another killing tonight – and this time, a businessman was the victim. This evening around five, 38 year old Jason Coombs – the owner of Pre Con Limited – was at his business at the corner of Caesar Ridge Road and Central American Boulevard when he was shot multiple times to the head and chest. At this time, the motive is not known. Even in these weary times, the cruelty of the act defies description. Keith Swift was on the scene looking for answers.

Keith Swift Reporting,
39 year old Jason Coombs was gunned down on the compound of his business – Pre-Con Limited. His worker Manuel Cruz heard the gunshots.

Manuel Cruz, Employee of Deceased
“I was changing my clothes and I just came of the container, I saw when the car came in, a tinted car, but I wasn’t paying it no mind because I thought they were going into the office to see somebody or the secretary for something. From then I came out to throw my garbage thing from the food I ate and that is when I heard the gunshot but I didn’t expect that my boss got shot. I didn’t expect it. But when I turned around back so, then I see the car driving out and then when I looked I saw him on the ground. But I was far from him and I saw him on the ground and the car just swing and drive right out.”

Keith Swift,
“How many shots did you hear?”

Manuel Cruz,
“I think roughly about three.”

Keith Swift,
“So Mr. Coombs was in the office when the car drove up?”

Manuel Cruz,
“No he was out of the office and that is why he got shot because he was out of the office because he likes to drive the machine and so and give us a hand, he drives the loader and gives us a hand and he went to park the machine when the car came in.”

Keith Swift,
“Did you hear an altercation, any shouting?”

Manuel Cruz,
“Nothing. It was a fast thing, that’s all. I just hard bang and it is when I looked around I saw the secretary the come out and then that was it.”

Keith Swift,
“So you thought nothing of this car driving into the compound?”

Manuel Cruz,
“Yes because it is a business place, we do concrete work. We do business.”

Manuel Cruz has worked for Coombs for 4 years.

Keith Swift,
“Do you think it was a robbery?”

Manuel Cruz,
“He had everything on him, he had his phone, he had his wallet and everything on him.”

Keith Swift,
“So you went up to the body, was he already dead?”

Manuel Cruz,
“I don’t know because I didn’t touch him or nothing but a fellow said he touched him and he said his pulse was still there but by the time they got here, it looked like he passed out.”

Keith Swift,
“Did you see where on his body he was shot?”

Manuel Cruz,
“No I only saw a shot on his shoulder right here and the blood started to come out.”

Keith Swift,
“Were you close to him, was he a nice boss?”

Manuel Cruz,
“Yes he was a good boss, you can’t complain about him. He was a nice boss. He was alright. Right now we don’t know how the work will end up now so we have to work for further orders.”

At this time police have no suspects. We’ll have more on this story tomorrow. Coombs, who would have been 39 in December is the father of one son and was expecting another child. His business was in cement mixers.

Police have the license plate of the mystery vehicle which drove into the compound, its passengers carried out the execution and then the car rolled out. The license plate, apparently, was stolen.
