$17,000 Jacked from Money Changer in Corozal
posted (November 13, 2009)

Joseph West is a well known money changer at the northern border but what he didn’t know was that for at least two days, every move he made was closely monitored by two criminals who are now being vigorously sought by Corozal Police.

On Thursday what turned out to be a routine work day for Joseph West and his family ended in terror. Around six twenty yesterday evening Joseph West got home after a full day of work at the border. Shortly after he entered his residence and was in the company of his wife and father, a man armed with a nine milimeter pistol ran into the house while an accomplice stood watch outside the property.

The armed man was after one thing only, the money that Joseph West had worked hard that day to earn. The man left with a total of seventeen thousand, seven hundred Belize dollars. Luckily no one was injured but because the crime was committed with a weapon it is being classified as an aggravated burglary.

According to Corozal authorities they believe the crime was well orchestrated and it is quite possible that their suspects are from the Corozal District. While they told us they had no leads in the case they are optimistic that an arrest will soon be made.
