Teen Charged for Armed Robbery at Bel-Taco
posted (November 16, 2009)

Last Thursday two young men walked into Bel Taco on Hyde’s Lane and held up its owner and employee. Today one of those accused in the robbery appeared in the Belize Family Court.

The sixteen year old boy pled not guilty to the charge but because in March the minor was given a suspended sentence of six months when he pleaded guilty to escape and guilty of assaulting a police officer, following his court appearance today he was taken to prison to begin serving the sentence. That same minor was also shot last month.

But back to the robbery...according to the Bel-Taco owner around one fifteen on November twelfth she and an employee were behind the counter when two persons walked in the establishment. As the suspects approached the counter they covered their faces with their shirts. One of them then walked behind the counter. The employee quickly reacted by closing the cash register but the culprits managed to steal a purse that contained one hundred and forty five dollars. The purse was behind the cash register. The robbers also stole a bunch of phone cards.

Court reports are that as the robbers were leaving Bel-Taco, they also snatched a customer’s purse. As the men ran, the owner screamed out loudly which alerted the neighbours who were able to identify one of the robbers.
