Day 1: The Conflicts at KHMH
posted (November 26, 2009)

More disturbing, according to Simon is that the audit report found instances where the KHMH both pharmaceuticals which had already been supplied by government’s central medical store.

Wayne Simon,
“The KHMH made purchases of items from the open market when the records at the CMS, Central Medical Stores, showed available stocks. In other instances, KHMH made purchases of items on the retail market while CMS delivered the same items simultaneously. In many instances it appeared that the purchases were not justified.

The company that received the most of that expenditure was De La Fuente and they received $227,362.63 and Pharmo Biz International got $102,172.01. There were many instances where the hospital could have waited for requisition items instead of purchasing on the retail market. There were also cases of where the hospital paid high prices for items that were tendered at minimal prices.”

The hearing resumes tomorrow at 9 when Simon is expected to continue his testimony. The commission is chaired by Supreme Court Justice Adolph Lucas. He is joined by Orvin Nicholas who was appointed by the Trade Union Congress and Julia Castillo who was nominated by the Ministry of Health.
