Two Suspects Charged for Market Shooting

Belize City Police have charged twenty three year old Osman Mitchell and a sixteen year old minor for shooting market vendor Osmin Garrido. It happened at the Queen’s Square Market on Monday in broad daylight and plain view of many vendors and shoppers at the city’s busiest market. Four days after he was shot n the back, the victim remains in a critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. The motive police believe was robbery.

Mitchell and the minor have been charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. Both pleaded not guilty but because the crimes were committed with a firearm no bail was granted. Twenty three year old Osman Mitchell and the sixteen year old have been remanded to the Belize Central Prison until January twenty fifth, 2010.

But which one is believed to have actually pulled the trigger? Well, the minor later appeared before the Family Court where he was additionally charged for the attempted murder. And for that charge he was further remanded to jail until March tenth, 2010.
