If you have nothing planned for the start of this weekend, then we have just the medicine to put you in a good mood for the weekend. It is an all star line up of the very best artists and musicians who have come together for one night to perform pieces by well known percussionist and multi-instrumentalist Carlos Perrote. The concert dubbed Carlos Perrote and friends is a live variety of musical arrangements from the artist’s newest album. 7News was invited to tape the rehearsal to bring you a small samples of what you will hear tomorrow night and the musical mastery should have you scampering for tickets but we’ll let you decide for yourself – here goes.

Jacqueline Godwin,
“Carlos I notice you have an all star line up here, Lyn Young on the steel pan along with Herschel Armstrong, our very own Junie Crawford, yourself – what’s the purpose of getting together these talented Belizeans to perform for one night?”

Carlos Perrote, Performing
“It is to show Belize who we are so we try and bring musicians from different corners, different talents. We have the Pantempters Steel Band, we have Junie Crawford, Jason Guerrero, the National Dance Company, the Palotti String Orchestra – a variety show.”

Performer,
“I am into all aspects of music while I am in Los Angeles, whether it be recording, touring, writing, producing, a lot of producing, and besides that pretty much taking it easy.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
“Right now you are rehearsing for tomorrow’s concert, are you in Belize specifically for this concert or are you happen to be here and they heard that you were here and they pulled you in?”

Performer,
“Well it was like that before, I was supposed to be here for another concert but it didn’t work out so they asked me to come to do this concert and so meanwhile it gives me a chance to visit my mom.”

Carlos Perrote,
“This is also for me to release my new CD.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
“So everything we will be listening to tomorrow night is also on the CD?”

Carlos Perrote,
“Yes most, the twelve tracks of the CD will be played tomorrow night.”

Performer,
“Carlos Perrote is a local Belizean, originally from Cuba, and everybody knows that, and he brings a lot to the table in terms of Belizean advancement of music here in Belize and we would be really nice for not just musicians but fans to come and see some of their local people being portrayed by this really phenomenal musician to be entertained and see what they have achieved, which I think they’ve achieved a lot. I’ve been coming here constantly for the last six years and I’ve seen a lot of improvement and I think they need to come out and support. Besides that, I think we have some really hot songs. It will be really phenomenal.”

The concert Carlos Perrotte and Friends gets underway at eight on Friday night at the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts.
