posted (December 29, 2009)

Forty two year old welder James Locario has been charged with wounding after he beat his seven year old son with a metal pipe. Today the father appeared in Belize City Magistrate’s Court where he was fined one thousand dollars. James Locario pleaded not guilty to the charge of wounding.

Magistrate Kathleen Lewis gave James Locario until March 15th, 2010 to pay the fine. If he defaults he will spend six months at the Belize Central Prison. It happened around seven thirty on Wednesday December 23rd. The child reportedly told police that he went into the ceiling of his father’s house to get a trunk but he fell through the ceiling on to the floor. When the father came home the boy’s mother told him what happened to their son and that is when James Locario allegedly took a metal pipe and beat his child across the boy’s lower back.

The injury was severe and the seven year old was rushed by his mother to the KHMH where he remains hospitalized. The doctor has classified the young patient’s injuries as wounding. The child suffered abrasions and lacerations on his back.

Court reports are that James Locario told police that he beat son because he had told him not to go in the attic and his son disobeyed him. The father told the court he did not consider the beating severe and he did not know he had wounded his son.
