115 Women in Art Exhibit Opens
posted (March 5, 2010)

March is Women’s Month and the Institute of Creative Arts will be celebrating with a month long “Women in Arts” Exhibit. It will feature 115 female artists, performers, dancers, and even deejays. It starts tonight with the launch of the visual arts exhibit. Artworks from 45 female artists will be on display in the Belisle Art Gallery. Today we got a preview and spoke to ICA Director Greg Vernon.

Greg Vernon, ICA Director
“We will be featuring 115 artists, female artists in different mediums, different styles, in the Belisle Gallery and this is one of the first events for the Women in Arts Exhibition and Performances that should be happening for the month of March.

We like to showcase our female, of course you know this month is the month of women and also child simulation month and so I feel it fitting that our female artists be placed and be looked out so they can have some sense of recognition and the public will be able to recognize our female artists, our women artists – the ones working in the field with stones, with wood, with canvas, paint, working with their body, and working with fabric.

I feel the female form and the female artists do need the support at this time. We are in a little rot, a recession but I think this will bring people out to see what the women in art have to offer.”

All the pieces on display will be on sale. Again the visual art exhibit opening tonight is just one part of the month long celebration which will include a model showcase and deejay competition on March 13th at the House of Culture and the Voices of Sisterhood Monologue Showcase on March 20th. Tonight’s launch was scheduled to kick off at 7 pm at the Bliss Center. Entrance is free.
