On Friday National Security Minister Carlos Perdomo boasted that Dr. John Gough
had been charged but while that may have been the case, he wasn’t arraigned
until this morning. 38 year old Gough and his neighbour 32 year old Egbert Nicholson
were charged for wounding when they appeared in Magistrate’s Court. Gough
a resident of Corner Palmdale Drive and Park Avenue pleaded not guilty and so
did Nicholson – who is a resident of Park Avenue. They were released on
bails of one thousand dollars and their case was adjourned until April 21st.
Gough becomes the first doctor on our records to be charged for such an offence.
According to court reports, on February 15th, at 3:30 pm Zelaya was walking
on Dolphin Drive in Buttonwood Bay when a green Prado pulled up beside him.
Zelaya said a man of dark complexion came out of the passenger seat and asked
him what he had in his pocket. The man then told Zelaya he was going to search
him. Zelaya claims that before he could respond the man started punching him
in the face. According to Zelaya Dr. Gough then stepped out of the Prado from
the driver’s side and also began to punch him. Zelaya said he fell to
his knees and asked the men why they were punching him – but claims they
did not respond and simply continued to hit him.
They then got into the Prado and drove off. The doctor who examined Zelaya
classified his injuries as wounding.
