In our first segment we told you about the murder of Ervin James. Less
than 30 minutes after that slaying – police rushed to the corner of Supal
Street and Kut Avenue where there was another report of gunshots. Only three
were fired but they found their mark in 25 year old Renan Reneau. The question
his family and friends is asking tonight is why because he has no known gang
ties. Keith Swift returned to Reneau’s home on George Street this afternoon
– a residence he first visited almost 6 years ago to the day.
Sherolyn Viamill, Sister of Renan Reneau
“Every time we see mothers cry and we never knew we would be the next
one to hurt. Every time we watch news we say mein mothers crying and we remember
our brother. We never knew it would come to our door.”
Her brother is 25 year old Renan Reneau who was murdered inside this yard at
the corner of Kut Avenue and Supal Street.
Voice of Eyewitness,
“It actually happened at about 10:30 minutes to 11 and I went inside
after which ten to fifteen minutes after the first gunshot and that is when
I realized it was close. So I decided to come outside and it was about two more
shots I believe.”
Keith Swift,
“Where was the guy who was shot?”
Voice of Eyewitness,
“The guy that got shot, he was already on the ground.”
Keith Swift,
“Could you tell if he was dead?”
Voice of Eyewitness,
“He wasn’t dead at the time.”
After he was shot, Renan jumped over this septic tank and collapsed in this
depressed patch of grass.
Sherolyn Viamill,
“I see bullet in his chest.”
Renan Reneau actually lives on George Street but he was all the way here at
the corner of Kut Avenue and Supal Street visiting his girlfriend when he was
murdered.
Sherolyn Viamill,
“The girl who he has, she came for him and took him to her house.
I don’t know what went on. She says she left him downstairs and went upstairs
to get a drink for him. By the time she went upstairs somebody shoot him. We
don’t know who shoot him.”
And Renan’s family can’t think of why they would shoot him.
Louise Felix, Mother of Deceased
“We nuh know why they shot him for. He always talk with people, run
joke with people. He doesn’t fight or nothing.”
This is the second son of Louise Felix that has been murdered. Her son Dalton
was killed in 2006.
Louise Felix,
“This is the second one gone so. This is the second one they kill.
From the first one I didn’t get nothing. For the second one I want something.”
Sherolyn Viamill,
“We want something because our first brother went just like that and
nothing came out of it and now again it makes no sense. They have to hang those
boys because if they don’t hang, this will never done. Anytime they shoot
somebody they get away. I didn’t know my brother would go like this. He
was close with us. He left from here saying he was going to fix a bike and that
was the last time we saw him. He never came back again. We saw him in the dead
house. Two bullets on him. I don’t know why they killed him, what he did.”
Reneau’s brother Dalton was incidentally killed in April of 2004,
exactly six years ago. He had gone to buy food for a lady friend when he was
shot. As the family lamented no one was convicted for Dalton’s murder.
We note that Dalton had quite a long rap sheet. Police say they are investigating
and haven’t indicated if any suspect is detained.
