There were a number of shootings in the city this weekend as gunshots were
heard in many neighbourhoods. Two of the most serious happened yesterday.
In the first which happened at 1:14 pm at the corner of Nurse Findley Crescent
and Faber’s Road. 24 year old Kimberly Ciego and 26 year old Ricky Valencia
were on a motor scooter when at the corner of Faber’s Road and Nurse Findley
Crescent, a tinted, green Ford Explorer without license plates pulled up in
front of a Chinese store. A man got out and started shooting at them. Ciego
was injured to her abdomen and legs, while Valencia escaped unhurt.
It is of note that that shooting occurred around the same time that Kashif
Jeffries was slain on nearby Jane Usher Boulevard. In his case, eyewitnesses
saw a Green Ford Explorer pull up. The similarities are compelling but the Police
Press Office could not be reached to comment on whether police are treating
the incidents as related.
The other major shooting, happened last night around 9:30 on Rhaburn’s
Alley when 32 year old Keith Nunez was standing in Rhaburn’s Alley –
which is off New Road. That’s when a man with a blue rag over his face
walked up and pointed a gun into his face. Nunez, knocked the gun away, and
ran. The gunman then opened fire and hit him in the abdomen, feet and hand.
