Elodio Aragon Escapes Injury in Traffic Collision
posted (April 16, 2010)

Former UDP Minister of Education, Elodio Aragon narrowly escaped injuries this morning after another driver plowed into the back of his car. The accident happened at around Mile 17 on the Northern Highway, when the driver of this SUV, Carol Gabriel of Consejo Shores claimed she was unaware of an upcoming speed bump.

In a report last month about an accident on this same highway, Seven News pointed out the shortcomings of the Transport Department, which has responsibility for the nation’s highway signage. In fact, we pointed to the lack of a warning speed bump sign at the very scene of today’s accident. And one month later, there is still no warning sign at the approach of this same speed bump – which contributed to today’s accident.

Elodio Aragon,
“Five of us, three adults and two children. Nobody was hurt, just little knocks but nothing serious.

We came up to the bump, we slowed down a bit and over the bump we felt the bump. That is what experienced, I heard the bang, it was a bit shock, I said what’s wrong, and then when we drove on this side we looked back and we saw the vehicle still moving a little. I believe they might have been coming a little bit fast and probably did not see the bump or I don’t know really, I can’t tell really because I only felt the bang.”

Incidentally, Gabriel says she was heading towards Belize City with her passenger, William Wildman who was scheduled to undergo a routine medical checkup at Universal Medical Services. Luckily for both Gabriel and Wildman, the air bags of the vehicle they were driving in deployed on impact. Gabriel escaped unhurt, while Wildman apparently was left in a daze as a result of the collision. He was taken to the hospital for medical attention.
