Balling for Tarrel
posted (April 22, 2010)
Tarrell Sutherland – the four year old with icthyosis is recovering from a minor surgery in Texas. Doctors there want to ensure that when he returns to Belize, his skin condition does not deteriorate the way it did when he came back in February. He's taking hydro-therapy for his feet which erupted with infection just before he left Belize. He's also on special medication for his skin.

But while much of his care is provided pro bono – treatment and medicine have high, recurrent costs and the healing programme is long term. And that's why his family continues to fundraise. One athlete who knows just what Tarrell is going through is J. Jex. He plays basketball with the San Pedro Tiger Sharks and contacted Tarrel's family to organize a fundraiser.

Jex explained that it will be an international basketball game backed up by a great cause :.. A lot of people including jules have gone a long way to help this child and his family so its very important that everybody come out, supoort and not only just the child, basketball unity against mexico which is a big thing it is important that everybody come and support this cause.

"This team is a rival team for the San Pedro Tiger Sharks -- Delfines de Chetumal -- and it's a team we always play in Mexico on their home turf. We never really get a fair call from the referees. So now we are gonna have a chance to have a game against them on our home turf with our referees and our fans. We're gonna be the home team so its very important that everybody come out and support us. Bring your flag. We're gonna have entertainment from our local artists. Mr Program, a Punta Band, Tough Enough Sounds, Rico Black and the Tiger Sharks. Its gonna be an entertaining Saturday eveing for the Belize people."

There will also be live entertainment at the game. It starts at 7:30 on Saturday April 24th at 7:30 pm. Admission is ten dollars and again, all proceeds go to the family of Terrell for assistance with costs for his medication and treatment.
