Traffic Warden Fired for Eighth Time in 7 Years
posted (May 5, 2010)

If you've driven a car on the streets of Belize city - you'll know Mark Banner - he's the traffic warden who always has a happy go lucky style, and wears a smile on his face.

But tonight, he's not smiling one bit; he got fired last week.  Now firings at the traffic department are news right now - except he says he did not get fired for corruption, he says he got fired for no good reason.

Mark Banner (Former Traffic officer)

"I lost my job last week Wednesday but I don't think I was supposed to lose my job because in the first place I am at the city council for seven years, I have been fired seven time and this one will make eight times."

Jules Vasquez

"Why did you lose your job?"

Mark Banner

"Well they made me lose my job because they say that I sign a behavioral contract with them which in like what I said I got fired eight time now. To every time I got fired they never investigated; they don't have nothing on me now, now or then."

  Jules Vasquez

"You must be doing something wrong."

Mark Banner

"I am dedicated to my job. Now like how I lose my job now..."

  Jules Vasquez

"You must have some behavioral issue maybe you come to work a little tasty or come a little late."

Mark Banner

"Well boss to tell you the god's truth the first thing they always say I am a drunkard. That is the firs thing but I am someone like this, whenever am doing my job I make sure that am nice to everybody out there I got a good PR and don't drink on the job. When I come off I take my little drink but am not a drunkard."

  Jules Vasquez

"But maybe you miss work 'cause you had a goma or something like that."

Mark Banner

"No, I am the best thing that could ever happen  to the Belize City Council as a traffic officer because the way how I showed it, seven years I got fired seven time now eight and I still will get this back although Mr. Jenkins and Miss Rudon, I wish they would be watching this, because this is showing that I will get back my job."

Jules Vasquez

"How will you get it back?"

Mark Banner

"I pray to God and I have some positive backup."

Banner made broad anecdotal accusations of corruption against higher ups at the council but did not have evidence to support his claims.
