This weekend, Orange Walk police responded to a call from two persons on Santa Familia Street who reported that they were robbed at gunpoint. In fact, they were almost killed, but the gun that the robbers were using snapped twice. They called police and a responding team intercepted the vehicle with 5 men and two loaded guns inside. Office in charge at Orange Walk Joseph Myvett confirmed that one of the men is Noel Leal Jr., son of the assistant commissioner of Police Leal, Sr.

"At about 10:25 pm on Friday 14th May, Orange Walk police in responding to a report of a robbery intercepted a green and grey Mitsubishi L200 pickup in Orange Walk Town. The following persons were searched; Noel Leal Jr., 25 yrs old, Herman Grant, 20 yrs old, Norris Middleton, 20 yrs old and Deon Parchue, 25 yrs old. All are from Belize City along with Leon Fitzgibon of Ladyville. The following items were found during this search; 1 - .38 revolver with 6 rounds, 1 - 9mm pistol containing 13 rounds, 1 black ski mask, 1 camouflage mask. Also found on the person of Noel Leal Jr. was one 9mm pistol containing 13 rounds ammunition for which he had a license. They were charged with two counts of unlicensed firearm, two counts of unlicensed ammunition and one count of going equipped."

Today in court, three of those men got off the charges as the other two pleaded guilty. Herman Grant pleaded guilty to the charge of kept an unlicensed firearm and ammunition namely a .38 special with 6 live rounds for which he was sentenced to 2 in years prison. He also pleaded guilty to going equipped for the two masks for which he was sentenced to 1 year in prison to be served concurrently. Sentence starts running today.

And Maurice Middleton pleaded guilty to the charge of kept unlicensed firearm, namely a 9mm pistol and 13 live rounds for which he got two 2 year sentences to run concurrently starting today. With that, Noel Leal Junior, Deon Parchue and Leon Fitzgibon pled not guilty to all charges and were free to go.
