BTL Celebrates World Telecom Day
posted (May 17, 2010)
Today was world telecommunications day celebrated under the theme "Better City, better life with Information Communication Technologies." It doesn't have a ring to it, nor does it flow smoothly off the tongue, but BTL put it into action with a lavish show today at the Princess Hotel. Here's more.

School children lined up by the hundred to get into the world telecommunication day exhibit at the Princess. Once the ribbon was cut - Telemedia staff put on an impressive, engaging display showcasing technology and services.

Nestor Vasquez, Sr. Executive Chairman BTL
"It gives Belize Telemedia an opportunity to show all the children the technology and its future development and how good it will serve the people of Belize to better not only the way they communicate to better their way of life."

Karen Bevans - Chief Operations Officer, BTL
"The main idea is to introduce all the kids to what's coming in the development on telecommunications. All the new and emerging services and the direction in which telecommunications and information technology is heading. We need to show for the development of our youths, the development of our country and showing them how they could access information. Getting access to the internet and the advancement in technology could only be beneficial for them and our country on a whole. " And while these kids won't be buying shares, it is also a show of flash, continued commercial viability and market dominance, a sort of public sales pitch for a company that is very much on the market :

Nestor Vasquez
"I take this opportunity to remind you that later this year, perhaps in September, the Government of Belize will be offering for sale to the Belizean people the shares that it presently owns in Belize Telemedia. The new articles of the Company will include safeguards to protect Belizean shareholders and will ensure that every year 40 percent of the company's profits will be declared as dividends. This will be a golden opportunity for 6:10:02 all of us to own a part of the great BTL." The event ran all day - and judging by the numbers, hundreds of school children visited.
