In Belize City, we know plenty about criminal gangs but have you ever heard of internet gangs? Apparently, Belize is home to those as well.
International press reports say that a Belize based company called 3FN has been shut down by The US Federal Trade Commission - known as the FTC.
In June of last year, the FTC used an injunction to cut 3FN off from other hosting providers and sever its connections to the net.
Now the FTC has gone a step further and won a court order that will force company to stop trading and confiscate its hardware. The servers and hardware of 3FN which were overseas have been seized and are set to be sold.
According to press reports, this company aided cyber-gangs in distributing spyware, viruses and trojans, had a hand in many phishing attacks and traded images of child abuse.
So what does Belize have to do with all that? There's no regulatory body for that kind of activity here, but most likely the company and its affiliates Pricewert LLC, 3FN.net, Triple Fiber Network, APS Telecom and APX Telecom were registered in Belize.
