Michael Finnegan, Cancer Survivor
posted (May 28, 2010)
Minister of Housing Michael Finnegan has been away for over two months. He left for Detroit, Michigan in mid-April to seek treatment for prostate cancer. He took surgery to remove his prostate at the end of April and after a month of convalescence in Detroit, he returned today. He is among the first public figures to have made his fight with cancer so public and when he got to the airport, a visibly smaller Finnegan told us that he can't wait to get some home cooking:

Hon. Michael Finnegan
"Well I went through hell and it was a frightening experience, but here I am. God is not ready for me yet, he has given me a second chance."

Jose Sanchez, Reporter - Channel 5 News
"Is it in total remission?"

Hon. Michael Finnegan
"That's what the doctor said because they judge it by the PSA. When I went there I had a PSA of some 8.64 and after the surgery my PSA is 0.2."

Jules Vasquez
"Ok, now you were away for 2 months. Are you home sick?"

Hon. Michael Finnegan
"Yes I am home sick. I was waiting to get better to come home to Belize. Belize is the greatest country in the world. One nation, one people."

Jules Vasquez "What is the thing you missed most about home? Looks like you missed the cooking."

Hon. Michael Finnegan
"The people of Mesopotamia division and my family."

Jules Vasquez
"But you can't return to your divisional office immediately. It looks like you still have to recover a little more. "

Hon. Michael Finnegan
"No. I am here but I will be at home away from public life for about 2 weeks."

Jules Vasquez
"I know you are a famous cook. What is the first home cooked meal that you will be looking forward to. Some pig tail?"

Hon. Michael Finnegan
"Me and you have to organize something in the week, Jules. I have about 10 pounds of cowfoot at home. I might probably bubble it on Sunday."
