Camp For Kids
posted (July 2, 2010)
Tis the season for summer camps and there are a lot of them at that. Today we found one with a little kick to it. The Poor and Famous Culture club football camp and competition began on Monday and is set to continue for the rest of the summer vacation, ending in August before school reopens.

We spoke to the organizer, who told us why having the camp was very necessary.:...

Larry Sutherland, Camp Organizer
"They don't really have anything to do, they just get into trouble and maybe get into danger and stuff like that."

Emaun Hyde
"So it's better for them to come here and learn to do something than just being on the streets?"

Larry Sutherland
"Yes, Yes."

Emaun Hyde
"How many kids do you have here?"

Larry Sutherland
"We have about 200 daily."

Emaun Hyde
"What is a typical day here? What all happens during the day?"

Larry Sutherland
"We do breakfast, like banana, orange in the mornings, we do drills, we do lunch and in the afternoon we do a competition, and then we clean up."

Emaun Hyde
"How does it make you feel that you are able to get so many kids off of the streets and doing something productive with their summer?"

Larry Sutherland
"We feel good, feel great."

Emaun Hyde
"What all you guys do here during the day?"

Crucifer Witson- Participant
"Play football and enjoy ourselves."

Emaun Hyde
"Are you enjoying it?"

Crucifer Witson- Participant
"Yes ma'am."

Emaun Hyde
"What would you be doing summer if you weren't here?"

Crucifer Witson- Participant
"I would stay home and play game."

This is the camp's second year. .....
