posted (July 2, 2010)
The Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with Rural Constituencies across the country is distributing thousands of seeds to farmers. Today, that initiative became reality for the farmers of Belize rural north.

Here's more.....

Rene Montero- Minister of Agriculture
"This is part of our National Platform for full security, focusing on Rural development and through an integrated farming system whereby we are giving the farmers the planting material so that they can live off their farm, they can increase their income and also create employment."

Edmund Castro- Area Representative, Belize Rural North
"It's a program that started I believe last year with the Minister of Agriculture that asked me if i would like to assisted the farmer in the Belize Rural North with some seeds and like what he had mention earlier, I wasted no time, I said yes when, how much? And organized my people and brought them out here and we distributed some seeds last year and he had promise the people of Belize Rural North that he would return which, he is a man of his words he is here again."

George Guest- Chairman of Crooked Tree
"I appreciate it very much because there are 27 farmers in our Village and they have to go and buy the gamanto seeds which they can't afford in the first place but they have to try and make it affordable, and this way Minister Montero has remedied that by giving them the seeds that they really need."

The distribution of seeds and crops will continue throughout the week all over the country.
