Constable Ezrick Flowers tried to stop four armed men from robbing a Chinese family that runs a grocery store beneath his apartment. But the gunmen shot at him and another policeman who tried to help. Monica Bodden has more:....

At 6 o'clock this morning Jihua Zhu - owner of Yun Kee Shop was opening the shutters of her store when four armed masked men forced their way inside the shop and robbed her. At the time, her husband and her son were inside the store. One of them screamed for help. That was when police constable 29 year old Ezrick Flowers - who lives on the upper floor of the same building - responded.

"They used the gun handle to knock my father in his head."

"Did they steal anything?"

"They only got the money and the phone cards."

"How much money?"

"About $400.00."

Linden Flowers, Brother of Shooting Victim
"Sometime before 6 a.m. this morning on Water Lane there was a robbery of a Chinese grocer that was opening the store around that time. The information is that a police officer constable Flowers who resides upstairs of one of the apartments on the flat heard some noise and he came down to investigate and upon his coming down on the ground floor he was fired upon at least two of four robbers who were fleeing the area after the robbery."

According to investigators, The 4 robbers were all armed.

"From what he told me at least 4 male persons of creole descent fleeing in the same direction and that at least two of them had some kind of mask on them. They fled into the George Street area. Four persons that he saw was armed at least two of them fired in his direction at the time when he came down the stairs and onto the gate."

Another Police Constable who was in the area at the time, responded and also fired shots at the assailant.

"A constable Bol who happen to be in the area at the time also came out to help my brother and he fired some shots. But he too was in the area where the robbers fired upon PC Flowers."

PC Ezrick Flowers was shot in the right hand and the right rib area. He is currently listed in a stable condition at the KHMH.

"Thank God he is very well, just one of the robbers penetrated his right elbow area and lodge in his lower right-side of his rib cage. From all indications, x-rays and ultrasound done on him reveals that no major organ was damage and he is expected to recover real soon."
