Moya-Flowers No Longer A UDP
posted (July 6, 2010)
Zenaida Moya - Flowers is no longer a UDP. Party Chairman Douglas Singh today confirmed to 7news that Moya-Flowers did not formally appeal the mid-May decision to expel her within the allotted 30 days.

He says she did write a letter 35 days after she received her notice of expulsion but that was not a formal appeal. Singh says in that letter Moya did not challenge the findings against her and instead made an appeal to the party, saying that the decision against her was harsh.

But that letter was not considered by the national party council according to Singh because it is not a formal appeal. So, as it stands tonight the decision to expel Moya- Flowers from the UDP is final and irreversible. Singh says she can, in time, apply for re-instatement.

How will this affect her tenure as mayor? Well, officially, none at all because the local government law is silent on political affiliation. Though she was elected as a UDP Mayor, even without the UDP brand she remains Mayor of Belize City. Singh says the ten UDP councilors have been advised that they must try and work in harmony for the betterment of the city with the now non-affiliated mayor. Ever since she got her notice of expulsion in mid-May, Moya has strictly refused comment on it.....
