Burglar Shot By Cop
posted (July 15, 2010)
We've heard of burglars breaking into homes, schools and even churches, but a police station? Now that's taking it too far.

But that's just what police say happened last night at the Roaring Creek police station.

The police officer attached to the village substation - also lives there on the upper flat. And last night at 11:00, he heard noises on the aluminum louvers. After hearing noises outside the building, he went outside and says he saw a male person known to him as Mark Diaz of Roaring Creek village trying to break in.

The policeman fired a warning shot into the air and ordered Diaz to freeze. But the constable said Diaz then reached for a hammer in his back pocket, and the officer shot him in his right shine - breaking his leg.

The policeman then retrieved a hammer with a metal handle. Diaz was transported to the Western Regional Hospital. According to a police press release, further checks by the police revealed that Diaz had already pried open one of the louvers from a window on the lower flat of the building.
