Journalist Davis Gets Out Of Jail, But Not Free
posted (July 16, 2010)
Yesterday our court reporter Roy Davis was in the news again. The 56 year old veteran journalist spent the night in police detention after getting into a fight with a Special Constable in court yesterday afternoon!

The constable is Wellington Welch, and Davis was charged with assaulting a police officer and harm when he appeared today in Magistrate Court. Davis pleaded not guilty to the charges and Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie offered him bail of one thousand dollars which he met. He is to return to court on October 5.

Davis said he was at the Magistrate Court inquiring about a news story when Welch told the person he was talking to not to tell him anything. Davis said Welch attacked him and punched him, telling him to get outside. Davis retaliated by pushing Welch and in the process Welch hit the back of his head against the wall.

Davis says he has retained an attorney.
