If you are one of the thousands of motorists who must utilize that portion of the Northern Highway at around Mile Seven where work is being done to shore up the river edge of the highway, then you are familiar with the risks associated with speeding motorists approaching those blinding curves while men are at work. The sometimes on and sometimes off again construction have left many motorists wondering whats going on at Mile Seven and a half. Seven News Monica Bodden posed that question to Minister of Works, Anthony Boots Martinez, and found out that there's more to what the eye can see.
Anthony Boots Martinez, Minister of Works
"The contractor is moving on that. If you notice a certain portion of that had fail last year and we are moving quickly and swiftly to remedy that portion. Again we have put up to CDB in regards to doing a 4 lane highway from Haulover Bridge to the Lord's Bank junction and we are doing all the necessary studies now to have CDB accept it. That in its self wouldn't be coming forward until sometime in the next year but you need to pre-prepare before you even deal with those things At the end of the day that 7 miles portion is being rectified as we speak and I think it should be back to full paving hopefully in the next month or so. The Haulover Bridge have been tested lately and we do regular test on it and I think that we can safely say right now that it is safe."
The Minister did not say how the ambitious project would be financed and when it would be completed.
