“Spy” Chopper Testing
posted (August 5, 2010)
Heard about that spy chopper at the Central Farm Airstrip in Cayo? Well, this is it in action today. Or not quite in action, but in testing. It's actually a YMQ-18A, an unmanned helicopter.

It will be tested in Belize along with a FORESTER radar during a 45-day period, starting this week and ending in mid-September.

The YMQ-18A, is produced by Boeing and the FORESTER radar is mounted on the helicopter to detect man-made objects located under vegetated areas.

There are two unmanned helicopters, this is the first and the second one is being assembled.

According to an official release from the US embassy the test is being conducted at the invitation of the Government of Belize. They are going along the lines of the LIDAR survey of Caracol last year which mapped that ancient Mayan city-state.
