31 year old Irma Gonzalez, told police that between the seventeenth and the twenty-sixth August, someone stole $10,800.00 dollars worth of jewelry from her house.
She told police it was in a laundry basket - and that led to the maid, 25 year old Salvadoran national Carmen Morales de Melendez.
She was charged with theft when she appeared in Magistrate's court today. No plea was taken but the prosecution objected to bail because her immigration status is uncertain. Magistrate Aretha Ford agreed and she was remanded until September 22nd.
The jewelry included a six thousand dollars 24 karat Indian gold chain, and a 24 karat Indian gold and diamond ring valued at 4 thousand dollars.
