Two brothers, 23 year old Roy Straughan and 27 year old Godwin Straughan , were charged with 5 offences, keeping ammunition without a gun license among them, when they appeared today in Magistrate's Court.

The other charges were 2 counts of drug trafficking and 2 counts of possession of a controlled drug.

The cannabis involved amounted to just over two kilos or about 4.4 pounds. They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Aretha Ford explained to them that the court cannot offer them bail because of the ammunition offence. She remanded them into custody until October 18th.

The bust occurred yesterday at 7383 Elston Kerr Street where there are two houses, one of concrete and the other of wood. The police went to the residence and reported that when they searched the wooden house at the back of the yard they found 3 bags of cannabis on the TV stand which amounted to 50 grams. A search of the yard resulted in the discovery of 3 bags containing 47 grams of cannabis stuck between a zinc fence.

Also stuck in the fence was a bag which contained eleven 12 gauge cartridges. A further search yielded two containers under the wooden house. One of the containers had 1.8 kilos of cannabis while the other had 118 grams.

Roy Straughan, a gardener who was the only occupant of the house at the time, was taken into custody. While he was at the police station, Godwin Straughan came and handed himself in.
