Man Shot in Face On Life Support
posted (September 7, 2010)
A 27 year old is on life support at the KHMH tonight after he was shot in the face this morning. The circumstance under which he was shot is half the story.

It wasn't a street shooting, or some old beef; he was shot by a security guard.

It happened around 8:40 this morning when Police responded to a call at the Fair Brothers Pawn Shop.

Businessman, Elroy Hemmans told police that Edwin Henry came up to him and said he wanted to business.

Hemmans says he told Henry that he needed to wait; he allegedly refused and then attacked the security guard with a knife. The security guard fired a single a shot that caught Henry to the right side of the face.

Seven News caught up with Henry's common law wife and this is what she had to say:

Voice of Shaneen Herbert, common - law - wife
"We live in Caye Caulker and we do carving business together and we had something in the pawn shop and we came to pick it up this morning and when I was in Caye Caulker this morning I got a call that he got shot. I was trying to get some more information but they didn't want to give me more information, I had to come here."

Jose Sanchez, Reporter
"What did you have him come to the pawn shop to pick up?"

Voice of Shaneen Herbert, common - law - wife
"A sander and rotator."

Jose Sanchez, Reporter
"Is that something necessary for the business?"

Voice of Shaneen Herbert, common - law - wife
"Yes, it's what we do the carving with. No really we just need to pick up some more piece of wood that we use for carving. I watch him this morning after he took a bath and change he didn't got any kind of edge tools on him. He is not somebody that carries edge tools on him. He is not really an ignorant person but I don't know him as any trouble maker, he doesn't mess with anybody. Only if they mess with him them it will be something else. but he is not somebody that is out on the streets, we just work and go home, we are not on the streets to cause any problem with anybody so I don't know him as any trouble maker."

Andrea Polanco
"Were you aware that he had any prior problems maybe with the pawn shop or with the security guards?"

Voice of Shaneen Herbert, common - law - wife
"No, this is our usual pawn shop, Fair Brothers is where we usually go pawn our things. So I don't really know what happen there."

Voice of Brenda Pilgrim , Mother - in - law
"From the time I know Edwin Henry with my daughter Shaneen Herbert, he is a pleasant and loving person, he is somebody that doesn't like trouble. Whenever we meet him he is a honest person to one and all. Edwin is somebody that is kind hearted. From the time I know him I didn't hear or know that he is getting in any kind of problem. He have one son with my daughter and I am looking forward to justice. So it is so surprising that I get the news that my son in law got shot in Belize City this morning. Whenever he comes to Belize he comes to the same pawn shop and from there he buy a little bit of things and catch the boat to go home."

Henry's family reports that he is on a life support machine at the KHMH. All efforts to get the other side of the story proved unsuccessful as Manager of Fair Brothers Pawn Shop said he wouldn't comment based on the advice of his lawyer.
