The Espat Murder Mystery
posted (September 7, 2010)
Funeral services for 47 year old Carlos Espat were held today at Holy Redeemer Church in Belize City.

But the investigation into this very high profile murder is just beginning. A police scenes of crime team reportedly went back to Espat's apartment this morning to look for clues. That's because when the police went on Saturday after he had been found dead, there was no sign of forced entry, no sign of a struggle and no sign of burglary, leading police to reach a preliminary conclusion that he may have died after slipping and hitting his head on the back of the bath-tub.

But a post mortem yesterday confirmed that it was no accident; the former PUP secretary general had been murdered. The post mortem found that he had been bludgeoned to the back of the head and the chest with a blunt instrument.

So why no blood or signs of a struggle? That's what puzzled police and according to our reports that's why when the team went back today, they took what are known as luminol tests - which can detect blood traces even after they have been cleaned up.
