Citizen’s Arrest of Burglar
posted (September 9, 2010)
Two men, 21 year old Joel McGregor and 20 year old Carlton Wade, who allegedly broke into the house of Wendy Castillo and stole over fifteen thousand dollars worth of jewelry, were charged with burglary and damage to property when they appeared in the #8 Magistrate's Court.

They were also charged with handling stolen goods for two separate amounts of stolen items. They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that McGregor is a repeat offender who is on bail for a charge of burglary and that burglary is on the increase.

Magistrate Emmerson Banner upheld the objection and remanded them into custody until October 7. The burglary and damage to property occurred around 2:30 pm on Monday September 6, in Hattieville. Police investigations revealed that the burglars wrenched off the lock on the back door and entered the house while Castillo and her husband, Linsford Castillo, were at work.

Apart from the jewelry they also stole an I-POD, two video games and an assortment of groceries. McGregor, who was detained by police later the same day also, had two video games and two of the stolen items on him. The Castillo couple helped their own case the following day, Tuesday, when they saw Wade walking on Albert Street and made a sort of citizen's arrest.

Reports are that they apprehended him at gun point and took him directly to Queen Street Police Station. They said Wade had some of the jewelry when they apprehended him.

Some of the stolen pieces jewelry were recovered from JL Quick Loan. Only three pieces of jewelry are still missing
