Today we spoke with Chief Met Officer Dennis Gonguez about what Belize can expect in the storm's aftermath:

"Well Tropical Storm Karl made landfall just around 8:00 a.m this morning and presently it's moving inland over the land fall was just to the north of Chetumal presently it's moving inland and as a consequence we expecting it to steadily weaken as it moves across the Yucatan Peninsula."

"So what can Belize expect with regards to the level of rainfall?"

Dennis Gonguez, Chief Meteorologist
"Well there is the possibility for some localized flooding in the northern sections of the country preliminary estimates of the rainfall so far we have up to about an inch since yesterday but those amounts should increase as we collect more and more recent data as the day goes by."

"What maximum sustained winds are we currently experiencing to the North of Belize?"

Dennis Gonguez, Chief Meteorologist
"Well when Karl made landfall the maximum winds were 65 miles per hour but they were concentrated close to the center of the system so here in Belize we would get about 45 miles per hour of winds the maximum."

"What should we expect with regards to flooding in the next few days?"

Dennis Gonguez, Chief Meteorologist
"Well the rivers up north are not as flashy as the ones down south do should expect some steadily rising river levels in the north as the rain continue during the course of today."

Although no major damage was reported in the northern districts with the passage of Tropical Storm Karl, the heavy rains and winds cut off the power supply to some parts of Corozal. Around 8:30am there electricity was lost in the San Andres Road Area, San Andres Village and Ranchito Village. Later around 10:00 electricity was lost to parts of Corozal Town and in the villages of Pueblo Viejo, Saltillo, Copper Bank, Chunox and Sarteneja.

Power was restored by 2:00 this afternoon.
