posted (October 5, 2010)
Who can forget Elvin Torres? He's that colourful man who came to national prominence back in May after police chased him down and beat him up on the western highway for no reason. After he went public police moved quickly to charge six police constables for beating him up.

Well, 5 months later the charge of wounding was withdrawn from four of six police constables when they appeared today in Magistrate's Court.

The four are 32 year old Kareem Fuller, 23 year old Tyrone Baizar, 28 year old Mark Martinez and 28 year old Glennwayne Grant.

Only thirty eight year old Fernando Franzua and 35 year old Henry Nunez still have to answer to the charge. The charge against the four was withdrawn on a directive from the director of Public Prosecutions, due to lack of evidence. The incident occurred on May 9th at the police check point located at mile 4 on the Western Highway.

The complainant, 35 year old Elvin Torres, an electrical mechanic, reported to the police that he drove up at the checkpoint when shots were being fired at the police constables who were there.

Torres said that the constables apparently thought that he was the one shooting at them and they beat him, he was handcuffed and Torres said a gun was put to his head while he was being beaten.
