Special Delivery For World Post Day
posted (October 6, 2010)
The Belize Post Office kicked off a series of public activities this week leading up to World Post Day, which is being celebrated in conjunction with the Universal Postal Union this Saturday, October 9th.

As part of the celebrations, today, employees of one of the country's oldest civil service branches were showing off a human side that sometimes goes unnoticed. With money from out of their own pockets and a bit of matching funds from the Post office, employees cooked up food for an estimated one hundred Belizeans which they served- up at Battlefield Park at lunchtime today.

James Gabriel, Asst. Post Master General, (Ag.)
"Post offices around the world celebrate World Post Day annually, on the 9th of October of each year. It is up to the respective country to decide what programs they will do to celebrate World Post day. And amongst our list of activities is the feeding program which we believe is a means of giving back to the community we serve. The idea of a feeding program came about from the committee that plans World Post Day of which I am a part. The committee chew it out and the others agreed that it would be a good way of giving back to the community. And so for the third time in a row now, we've been doing this feeding program out here at the Battlefield Park."

As part of the weeklong activities leading up to World Post Day, the Post Office will be sponsoring sporting activities tomorrow, while on Friday post offices nationwide will be hosting an open day customer appreciation day.
